Searching for Sean Raybuck

1

Last night, after a midnight rental of Searching For Bobby Fischer, followed by a 1am viewing, Sean and I, in a moment of ill-conceived inspiration, continued playing the game that has stolen my life and won't give it back: chess.

The last week has been dominated by that captivatingly complex game, which is generally good news. I use the term generally for good reason; the bad news is that my One Tree Hill viewership is at an all time low, and I have no freakin clue what's happening on the Real World OR My Super Sweet Sixteen. There was a time when I thought nothing could replace Chad Michael Murray, but the sweet action knight to bishop six has toppled my precious angsty heart-throb.

Sean suggested we spend some time with the chess pieces so that we could get to know them and become better players. At close to 4am, we actually began talking to our pieces. Sean crossed the line when he decided he was dating one of his pawns, got upset, and cried, "Have you been gaining weight!!??" Luckily the roommates were sound asleep.

Has anyone noticed that The Strobe looks more and more like a model?

Sean.... SO cool. I'm sure many girls would love to be Sean's pawn...? haha. I may have gone too far for the pun.

A chess master died - after a few days, a friend of his heard a voice; it was him!
"What's it like, where you are now," he asked.
"What do you want to hear first, the good news or the bad news."
"Tell me the good news first."
"Well, it's really heaven here. There are tournaments and blitz sessions going on all the time and Morphy, Alekhine, Lasker, Tal, Capablanca, Botvinnik, they're all here, and you can play them."
"Fantastic!" the friend said, "and what is the bad news?"
"You have Black against Capablanca on Saturday."

This Chess thing has gone waaaaay too far. I like it... A lot. I don't really know what any of it means, but just that fact that we are all friends and saying it; it's good.
