Pottery Barn, Elevated Employees, and Musical Trainwrecks

There are but three combinations of words that strike fear and loathing into the hearts of all college students: Overdrawn account, ipod broken, and job hunting. Though my usual state of being involves the first two, I find myself at present consumed by the third. Why do I have such trouble saying, “I'm wondering if the Pottery Barn is hiring?” Why can I simply not see myself as an “Aeropostle guy?”

This morning I stopped in at Half-Price Books, which it seems would be a natural fit for a lover of the printed word. If you’ve been in this store, you’re certain to be aware of two things: the ghastly fluorescent lighting which should be illegal in most states, and secondly the elevated check out center. The area where the employees stand is literally raised about 2 feet off the ground. I feel like I’m at the pharmacy or something. Maybe there’s just something about filling a bottle with pills or dividing the cover price of a book by two that necessitates a two foot lift.

Sunday I will begin leading worship at Three Rivers Church. Last night I confessed to the Lunar Module and K.L.Kennedy that I’ve never played in front of people before. EVER. They got real nervous looking but then I reassured them by saying I’ve learned exactly one song (Solid Rock) so far. I also told them about how Craig, the pastor, asked me how I felt about reading scriptures or praying in front of the church. I told him I’d be happy to write a blog to the congregation, but a prayer might be a bit much for right now.

If you’ve never seen a train wreck, feel free to show up Sunday morning to watch one.

Love the new look and I believe you will do just fine! Remember it's not perfection you should seek, it's drawing people closer to Christ through worship. It's no rock concert, it's coming into His presence! You are just the instrument in which it will be done. Trust HIM! much love, kk

There isn't a doubt in my mind that you will succeed at both endeavors! As they say, "you come from good stock." Remember that "if God brings you to it, He will lead you through it." I am very proud of you.
