Today in class, a professor corrected a student.
Unwillingly, the word "Oh" followed by "Snap" escaped my mouth. People turned, grimmaced, felt generally sorry for me.
Not that there's anything wrong with saying "Oh snap." Well, there was nothing wrong with saying it three years ago, on a basketball court in the Bronx when someone got blocked on an easy layup. There's nothing wrong with that.
It's on par with taking your glove off and slapping a man. 300 years ago, that meant something. It meant things were serious, it meant someone was passionate, it meant sombody was about to go. But if you did this today it would just come off as silly and your sexuality would be immediately and forever questioned.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
