me and becca in Ohio last month, no doubt having the birthday invite debate...
I have no idea what I'm doing here. Somehow I went from casually watching Mumford and Sons to... Blogging. What. Am. I. Thinking.
It's been sometime since my last post. What has happened to me in that time? Oh boy; cliff notes: Things were bad when I returned from Germany, got really bad after one of my best friends died, and then once in Austin I managed to shut off a lot of the world. Anyone who has tried calling my cell in the last 3 years, you know what I mean.
Seems what it boils down to is the feeling that my blog was a good thing--good for me to write and express, good for others to read and maybe laugh, and good for my delusions of grandeur. And in the last couple years I've really lost that part of myself, the part that writes and says things. But that's starting to change...
Case in point:
Becca and I have this running joke about who would I invite to my birthday party. This was the conversation 2 years ago:
B: Michael, you need to be more social. What happened to you? Who would you even invite to your birthday party?
M: Ok, ok, let's see. (Long pause). Well... (longer pause) Yes. I'd invite your parents, my cat Ms Amalie, the homeless guy at I35 and 290 with the skinny legs, my friend Andy, and Miss Mousey (my pet mouse, living in my house with me, Becca, and the aforementioned CAT), et al.
B: Oh my god.
M: Quiet time!
That was then, this is now. My birthday is Sunday. I've got a slightly longer list this time and with any luck, it will be even longer next year. Until then, I'm gonna see if I can do this again; mostly for myself, but feel free to come along.
