One Jump, Ahead of the Breadline

HPIM1419
(Find out what happens tomorrow--I'll blog my first video... get excited!)

No time to read? It's cool, just click here for the pics...

We’re driving home tonight, down dark foreign roads, the moon looks fossilized and casts a milky skin over everything. “Pinata, pinata…” we’re singing way loud, turning it up to hear Dan howling in the background. Becca starts to dance, convulsing to the beat of the next song, something by Kelley Clarkson. Shine On comes on and I proudly point out Ryan Cabrera has two albums out, his first slightly better before realizing what I’ve said. We both get really quiet, embarrassed for me. This always happens to me. Luckily Popular from Wicked comes on and our mood noticeably improves. Sometimes you’ve got to laugh to keep from crying. I scream into the night, “I KNOW about Popular!” I realize I'm gasping for breath.

Yes, we’re listening to the mix CD Nikki made in December. Nickel. Pickle.

And for a second during The Pinata Song, when Josh shouts out, “Hit the crap out of it!” I felt like my friends were there with me. Hot tears swell in my eyes and I tell Becca it’s the wind. I can hardly breathe. Luckily an Aladdin song comes on. One Jump Ahead. It’s hard to cry during Aladdin. I feel better but emptiness crawls and twists inside me, my body feels electric and I shudder.

I notice I'm not breathing. I'm under water. No one hears a scream under water.

The movie was OK. Zach Braff’s follow up, The Last Kiss, is not exactly Garden State Part 2. Tom Wilkinson was great in it. The soundtrack, for all the hype, was a let down.

Lady in the Water was not Shamalayn’s best film either.

And as for My Super Ex-Girlfriend, well, Uma’s better as a super ninja than as a super-bia.

What on earth am I talking about? This site is about 20-something angst, wanderings about Europe, mediocre photography and bad, self-indulgent prose not movie reviews.

We saw a great castle today too. There was this amazing post-modern sunset (see below), metallic and sticky, dull and deadly. We were the only ones there for an hour. Took some pictures, almost fell off the edge and died, talked about how many times we could’ve died so far in Europe, the usual.

Hit me with your light.

I would like to point out, that I was singing when he took that picture and had no idea he was taking it. I would also like to point out that Michael just informed me he has NO idea what a post modern sunset is. And I quote...
"I love my extremely shallow, sometimes philosohpical posts. That last one was my favorite. I mean what the hell is a post modern sunset anyway?"

Michael in the future, I would appreciate pictures that only accentuate my best qualities what ever that might be. But I don't think that you have captured it in this picture out of the hundreds that we took today!!!

Ok, so Becca was writing that next to me, mocking me and laughing. I tried to grab the computer. She mocked me more and wouldn't let me have it.

I'll have all you comment readers know that I do know what i meant by post-modern. I understand the philosophical movement in terms of literature and Derrida and the post-structural school. So it's not all BS. It's just the sun, post-modern...

Yeah, I don't know.

One point for Becca. Fine.

And as for your pic, I happen to see an inner/outer beauty that perhaps you can't see.

One point for Michael.

Tonight at CRU you were in the Fall Retreat video, stirring your coffee wearing Jessie's blue sweater.

One point for Michael.

Why?,

It's true. I threw that sweater away, I should have given it to you as a going away gift. Silly me. Sorry about not backing you up with the dishes, but the subject of clean dishes is very intense for me. Ask moriah, we had several deep conversations about my need to avoid cockroaches via cleaning dishes. So, sorry, but it's an instilled childhood thing that I will always live with.

It was great to see both you and Becca Anne on the Cru retreat video. We have our next retreat next weekend...can't yall just come for the weekend?

I remember some kids from other schools throwing some really dirty glances my way for that sweater. But after the slow clap victory, I had the upper hand. And we all know, they were probably just jealous of Jessi's good taste and my bad taste to wear women's clothing. But it wasn't the first time, and probably not the last.

Texas State represented. And T-State certainly represents in Europe, since I wear that sweater 24-7. THough now I'm going for the whole long sleeve under short sleeve, i.e. Seth Cohen (or Derek Eacho if you like) from OC.

On the run, drivin' in the sun,
Michael

I totally forgot about that cd! But I'm glad to see that you, clearly, didnt!
And I agree with Mar... make a short trip back for the weekend of Fall Retreat. It's only right.
Shine on,
Nikki
