By Rebecca Rice--Though the second paragraph was told in a quivering voice by Michael as I typed
Today was a big day for our little trooper. He got his wisdom teeth removed. ALL FOUR of them. So I spent my birthday playing nurse, which isn't bad. Michael is completely drugged up and what's more is that he's unaware of it. On the walk out of the hospital, he insisted on telling me about the experience. I smiled and nodded but truthfully only understood 16% of what he was saying... (this is how it goes even when he's not on drugs actually)
By the time we got home, Michael was sobbing and said that he felt his time was near. He collapsed into bed and curled into a fetal position and began mumbling bad French poetry. Solemn sunlight blossomed into the room and an icy chill wrapped itself around his body like a tarnished veil. He looked up at me, his eyes stoned armed and freezing. A small line of blood traced its way down his delicate face and I realized I was in the midst of beauty.
Gathering his strength he whispered, "Tell my story, love. I'll see you on the other side"
**
The other side turned out to be 30 minutes later when he awoke from his nap feeling great and demanding pudding cups.

Oh Michael. Got your e-mail and then read your blog. I remember when you told me you would see me on the other side. That was after you had finished some grueling test of endurance. Happy to read that you are doing well. And, Rebecca, check your e-mail and Happy Birthday, my granddaughter. Love you both.
