It's interesting to, in less than a couple hours, watch the face of the mother seeing her new born son (after a C-Section) for the first time, and see the face of a wife who is deciding to take her husband, injured in Iraq, off of life support. The thin line between life and death slowly dissolves, leaving nothing, spare hope, behind.

Most days a bus load of injured soldiers shows up at the ER entrance and we are called down to help unload them. Some are worse than others. One soldier, his face full of blood and shrapnel still in his head, was barely conscious when the Chaplain asked him if he'd like to talk. His only reply was "Just get me back to my soldiers."
What could I ever say about this? My words are nothing compared to this.

The blog might be a bit quiet for the next few days. It's a four day weekend and tomorrow I'm headed to France and Saturday to Cologne. Sunday and Monday I'm not sure about... hopefully Heidelburg.

On Monday I turn 43, according to my friends. That's cool.

Just so you know, Adam turns 43 this Saturday also!
The thin line between life and death leaves not only hope but eternity in the balance.
You look too thin in your recent photos. Are you losing weight?? No decent food over there??
You are so sweet and I am devastated I can't be with you for your birthday. Stay strong love.
Interesting,
Not bad, not bad at all. Can I use that??
Oh, and Mr/Mrs/Ms ?, I'll have you know that I am still a solid 6'2 (read: 6'0), 185 (read: 175 pounds) pounds of studliness. Sigh. Yeah, the food sucks. I might have dropped a couple pounds. But the studliness is still in tact, fear not.
The Girl,
You are in my heart. Always. You'll be here soon enough!
Love to all,
M town
hi Michael~
When I typed up a response to this the other day it was devoured by a glitch. (drat, it was such a glorious response...) What I'd wanted to say was that your word are incredibly valuable. If anyone can put words to events unfolding around him it's you. Maybe you just have to have enough time pass to gain the perspective you're looking for before writing about it, or, maybe not. (what do I know?) You've got such a great heart, the hospital, the soldiers, the families there, are all very fortunate to have you among them. Find a piece of beauty every day around you to help get you through the rough spots. {hugs} Susan
