I miss you people!!!
Has anyone seen how large the CRU photo page has gotten lately?
So the comment section seems to be heating up a little bit again... Let's not have a repeat of the summer now people! Just kidding- But I do have to give a salute to Dan for being the voice of reason. Also, I have to say I love Jessie because she's just so damn honest. You've gotta respect that.
Just saw King Kong and let me give you some advice--Run, don't walk to the biggest, loudest theater you can find and get ready for the ride of your life. Not only was the action top notch, front of the roller coaster on the first big drop, but I connected with King Kong on an intensely emotional level. I mean, I know, I know--guard your heart this guard your heart that, but tonight I let go. That ape touched something inside of me and I kind of actually teared up for the first time since seeing The Notebook. Not so much because of what the damn dirty ape was doing, although yes, that was a part of it, but more so because I had my own things going on and it just kind of touched a soft spot. But then King Kong bit out a dinosaurs tongue and I wiped the hot tears from my face, worried my dad saw me softly weeping. I cried out softly into the soft glow of the towering screen, "Oh Kong, you monster you!"
Tomorrow morning: Off to the Art Museum. It was recently voted as best art museum in the nation along with MoMa in New York and the Chicago Art Institute. This might imply getting off the phone before, oh say, 6am (yes, I'm quite serious) so that I can wake up by 9am.
Myles, have you made it home safely yet? Myles?

Thanks for calling me today, it made me smile (:
Aparently I'm going to see king kong at some point...acording to Dad.
We'll see how good it is.
I probably won't cry, but I never cry at movies
I'm dead inside
(like Chandler)
Hi Michael! long time no comment, I know. I was computerless for aw hile so I had to catch up on your blog. And let me tell you I had the ride of my life catching up on this without having to see King Kong. I'll probably see it though, what with having a kid brother and all. Glad to hear things are going well for you, we miss you! This comment is wayyyy wayyy too long. I hope I don't start WWIII with this on your comments section. Bff.
PS. Your brothers are looking really grown up! Is John still single? Ok not funny, but they are precious. Take care.
you're entirely ridiculous.
Dearest Kitten,
It was nice talking to you too. JC Penneys was a nightmare and I'm glad someone could share in my misery. I'm not dead inside, but last night I was pretty close as we searched and searched for, of all things, a comforter.
707,
Lindzee! Listen guurl, I need your address. I lost the one you gave me; if you want a christmas card, it means send me address. I read John your comment and he screamed out "woooohooooo!" (he's been drinking coffee all morning). Bff!
And J-Town,
You're entirely aweseom.
Michael, I am surprised that you liked Kong. I wanted to like Kong, even love it, but I was very disappointed.
The scenes between Ann and Kong have more depth and range than anything Fay Wray ever dreamed of, and yet it's on the island that "King Kong" completely falls apart. Instead of just sticking with Ann and Kong, Jackson just piles on the action, playing with his computer forever, forcing the audience to look over his shoulder. There's a dinosaur stampede, several giant spider invasions and an attack by creatures that look like angry penises with teeth. The audience is invited to witness peril and mourn the deaths of characters no one cares about. I didn't clock it, but at least an hour is spent on the island, and it's the same action repeated over and over: There's a monster, certain doom, a surprising escape. At one point, King Kong fights off three T-Rexes with one hand, while holding Ann in his other like an ice cream cone. Even that goes on too long. The unrelenting computer-animated action suffocates what seems to have been the movie's main purpose, to expand on the Kong-Ann relationship. The scene in which Ann realizes she trusts him and climbs into his hand willingly is touching and an enriching addition to the Kong legend. But it comes too late, and it comes with a price: The terror of the final sequence, of Kong's rampage through New York, is obliterated once Kong is fixed in our minds as a romantic rather than a dangerous force of nature. The issues are lost, the ambiguities and wider implications are gone. We're back in "Mighty Joe Young" land, watching three hours of a sad incident involving a big gorilla.
P.S. Look for something by email from Amazon. Let me know if you get it.
Merry Christmas,
Mike
MYkull, those Gap commerical pictures are my favorite. When did the photographer say the catalog was coming out? oh yeah if it's not a bother, I would love to have a Rice Family Christmas card. It would go on our fridge! :-D Anyways after reading about and hearing so much about King Kong, I think I might have to see it. Take care.

PS.
Jason Baker is a good canidate for the next MC. I've never seen him preform live, so Mr. Baker if you're out there, I'd like to see your next preformance. (You know...I got connections...)
Well, guess I will put in my two cents worth about King Kong - it was a terrible injustice of the original movie. My goodness, why can't anyone do a remake that sticks to the original? This Kong, done with the abilities of today's knowledge, could have been a reborn classic. Instead it turned into a circus. Merry Christmas, Michael. I love you. Grandma
OMG I Loved King Kong, I dont care what anyone says! It couldve been because Adrian Brody was in it and mmmmm i like him a lot; but reguardless of the fact that it was 3 full hours long, i thought it was great! You always look like you are having so much fun with your brothers, and that makes my heart smile :-) Merry Christmas!!~Amanda
Kong was awesome...hope things are going great for you michael
Weird. Kong seems to be a hit with the younger group. I guess that is what happens when people grow up with film makers who rely too much on CG and not the story.
All I know is a girl named A has never been so right.. Kong rocked my world. I woke up this morning crying; I guess I was dreaming of the part where he battles the fighter jets atop the Empire state bldg. Thanks for the back up there A!
M-Rock,
Alas alas, there really isn't a rice boys christmas card this year. I'm not sure why though; we HAVE been somewhat busy moving into the house and all, so perhaps it's that. Ah well, how about a blog picture instead? The rice family loves the panteoloas pro-v. Especially Johnny boy...
Grams, You gotta relax! Kong was sweet... The good old days weren't always good and tomorrow aint as bad as it seems! And Mike! I see you've mastered the cut and paste tool! :)
Love to all, and happy honika (sp?)
M-Town
PS-I heart Jessie Taylor!
It took awhile to find a critic that agreed with me. It seems most critics agree with you regarding Kong.
Maybe Brokeback Mountain will turn my Christmas movie experience around! It seems that this is one cowboy movie where the good guy gets it in the end!
Ouch... Really nice :)
Is Jason Baker CRU's newest model>??
Michael, don't go.... =(
Moriah,
You are my favorite, and for good reason :)
Your buddy,
M Town
omg! I heart you too!!!!
no worries mr. rice: back to waco, safe and sound.
