Swing the Spinning Step

Last night, in an ill-fated moment of ill-advised inspiration, we decided to go camping! And by camping I mean go out to a park to build a fire and make s’mores. That of course meaning just make a fire at a park. And by park I mean the backyard. Naturally.

Later on, around 1 in the morning, a jam session with Melody Selby ensued, during which she taught me a sweet Sixpence None the Richer song. This morning Matt informed me that we were right by his window and he heard all of it, especially the part about me getting excited and admitting I’d always loved the song “Kiss Me.” I lowered my head, got defensive, and said, “I didn’t know anyone could hear me.”

“That doesn’t make it right,” he replied, rather frustrated since I had grabbed a guitar and started playing it for him.

Kiss me out on the bearded barley
Nightly, beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear that dress

And I would be lying if I said I didn’t just sing that after looking up the lyrics.
