this picture will be slightly more realistic in about 2 weeks...
A month ago, I wrote my parents requesting for them to look around for a cultural event we could attend in New Orleans during my trip home (i.e. jazz concert, The Aquarium, fishing trip). This is the actual excerpt:
Dear Parental Units,
In short, I need a bit of good culture-maybe you can look around? A
musical, play, anything! Not that San Marcos isn't a cultural matrix
bursting with progressive intellectuals.... but you know.
The parental units obliged, happy to accomodate my vague request. This is the actual reply email:
I booked the trip today after we talked. Here's the skinny.
We fly out of New Orleans Tue, 5/17, at 10:50am on JetBlue Airlines direct to JFK. We arrive at 2:40pm, it's a three hour flight with a one hour time change. I bought tickets to the Museum of Modern Art where they have The Starry Night among others. What would be your first choice between a Broadway show, the Ellis Island harbour tour, other museums or a bus tour of Manhattan?
On the free list, I'd like to hit China town, Little Italy, Ground Zero and get lost on the subway. I also want to pay 20 bucks for a postage stamp sized piece of fish and bit of parsley - but I'm flexible on that one. Thoughts?
I'm now trying to decide if my next request should be a remote controlled car or sailboat.

-sean: I'll bring you something back from NY
Stary Night is at the MOD?
I so should have know that...and I missed it, I was just there (NY) in March.
Speaking of NY, you should see a brodway show, they're great. I saw Wicked and Stomp while I was there. Ground Zero, honestly, is nothing special. They have the plans for the new tower, and the Hero's list but other than that...You can't see much. I really didn't get much out of it...other than depressed. If you're near it at any time, go see the Gugenheim, it's a cool building.
Well Cat, I'll try to take a picture for you. I've always been a fan; in fact, I'm looking at a print of it on my wall as I type.
Yeah, I've heard ground zero isn't much to see anymore. I'll walk by and pay respects, but that's about it. What exactly is the Gugenheim? I've heard of it, but am not quite sure what it is...
PS-When did you start reading this blog? I had no idea...
i've stolen that picture of you..i'ts the desktop. got you.
You guys have fun! And tell all of us homebound people the great details!!!
buy a small statue of liberty
Your little brothers want a t-shirt! (not too much to ask from those left behind!!)
Mom
I have a print above my desk too...crazy.
The Gugenheim is a museum designed by Frank Loyd Wright. It's just a really cool looking bulding. It's not too far from the Met, so if you're over there just walk a few blocks to see it.
PS-When I got bored one night and signed on Facebook.
What is in the gugenheim? I've heard of it... Frank L. Wright is great; I've seen some books.
The facebook huh? I should've known...
You seem to be up as late as I am most nights Cat.
hey everyone... michael's throwing the frisbee... scoot up!!! ....keep scooting up.. keep.. scoot.. up.. ing...
:) dude that would be awesome of you--NY baby. oh, and your writing makes me smile. have a good one
That's right... laugh it up about my frisbee skills. We all know I'm olympic team bound (when and if it becomes an official sport).. In the mean time, yeah, keep... scoot...up...ing...
Honestly I don't know.
I snuck in and took a picture and left because my family had just spent 2 hours at the Met and were all museumed out.
You really just go for the building itself though, it's all swirly.
I bet I'm up later than you (and most of the san marcos population)most nights...it's probably not a good thing. Facebook is great, I've started e-stalking all my friends.
Great time of year for the Big Apple. I recommend Foley's in Times Square for your fish meal. Good food and view and you can actually have a conversation while eating. Yeah, it will take away that twenty spot but, you won't mind the food is good. Even the pigeon nibblers are tasty!
