The Greeks, when a man died, did not concern themselves with writing obituaries or eloquent eulogies. Rather, they asked one central question: Did he have passion?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it has come to my attention that many of my friend’s blogs have become, let’s say, incapacitated. They've lost passion. In fact I sometimes feel that my sidebar, where they can be found, serves as life support more than suggested reading.
It seems as though there is little choice but to do a Spring cleaning of sorts, and apply some sort of quasi-electronic Darwinism to their blogs. It’s post-modern survival of the fittest; fitness of course being a high WPM count and knowing a bit of HTML code.
Has a slow internet connection become the blogospheres sickle cell anemia? Is a reluctance to blog daily tantamount to England’s light colored moth during the industrial revolution? I hate to do this, but some of these blogs are flightless birds, marching their way to extinction.
Evolution, nay, blogolution didn’t intend for all to survive.
Endangered Blogs
AP: We’re Cats (Andy Petruzzo)-An inquisitive initial post showed potential, with the promise of UFO abduction related trivia laced with commentary on sexual tension between Mulder and Scully. But dormant for over a month, with only one post to date, Andy is in trouble.
Doubling Talents (Dan Reiter)-I’ve caught wind that this blog is dead in the water. Though Dan had some strong postings, in regards to philosophy and ultimate Frisbee, he used the word “hearty” and seems to really like Texas. Yikes. Though I am sad to see this one go.
Wheatspot (Paul Wheatley)- Once again, a classic case of starting strongly. Too strongly perhaps. Though Derrida himself would be impressed by Paul’s deconstruction of The OC, Wheatspot seems to have run out of steam. I could be wrong on this one. Paul is still my best friend either way.
Healthy Blogs
Gammon III (John Gammon)- This is an interesting case. John hasn’t posted in nearly a month, and no signs indicate he ever will post again, but his last blog has secured an eternal spot on my side bar. In his last blog he wrote about the nausea which pervaded his soul after watching MTV’s Sweet Sixteen. A day later, he revised the blog, cutting it down by about 20 words, yet saying the same thing. That blog, aptly titled Forget About That Last Entry, is inspiring and brilliant. Think of this blog as the sloth; somehow its inactivity has paradoxically offered it an advantage.
Marissa the Kissa (Mu-riss-eyqqqz Pantene)- This blog, this girl even, rocks my world, even though she can’t spell my name.
Keep Jordan Weird (Jordan Stewart)- Sporadically prolific blogging at its finest.
Derrik Eacho- I’d never take his off. Period.
