A toast to the New Year!
As a general rule, I reserve all of my sentimental crap for girls, but I will say 2004, despite its hardships, has been a good one. So without further a due, a rather truncated year in review, composed of "bests"...
Best Lyric: I drink good coffee, every morning. Comes from a place, far away. When I’m done, I feel like talking. Without you here, there is less to say. (Colin Hay)
Best Movie: Garden State. As Frou Frou poignantly reminds us, there’s beauty in the breakdown. The ultimate movie for my postmodern twenty something generation.
Best Song: Dear Chicago (Ryan Adams)
Best Trip: Washington DC
Best New Shirt: Mutants for Nuclear Power
Best Book: Unbearable Lightness of Being (Kundera)
Best Author: CS Lewis
Best Magazine: The Economist. Stuffy British opinions without the bad breath/teeth.
Best Album: Diamonds on the Inside (Ben Harper)
Best Idea: Offroading. Well, more so that I created a new definition for the term. If any, and I stress ANY part of the Jeep makes contact with something that is not considered to be pavement, it is offroading. Antenna touches an overhanging tree, hold on tight! We're offroading! Even taking a handful of grass, sprinkling it in front of the tires, and driving over the harmless blades is, well, yes, hardcore offroading. Also transferring schools is proving to have been a good idea more everyday.
Best New Friends: Dan and Corrie
Best Advice: Be cool.
Best Show: Howie Day; I left the Engine Room just before they were done with the encore, ran out to my Jeep, grabbed my guitar (for him to sign), turned around, only to make direct eye contact with him. Aside from the band members, we were literally the only people outside. He looked at me as if lobsters were crawling from my ears, and I looked at him as though he had just wandered out of the UFO wreckage at in Roswell, New Mexico.
Best Discovery: Your looking at it.
If you're reading this, then you are most likely my friend or a family member, and I wish you a Happy New Year. Thanks for making it a good 2004!
