Grace and Michael go Nuts!

Thursday Afternoon (3:30pm), Sunny with Scattered Clouds
People people,
Today in my Peoples and Cultures of Africa class we had the unique experience of trying some nuts that are endemic to Western Africa. Among these were the bitter cola nut, the cola nut, and alligator peppers. The bitter cola nut was easily the most displeasing as far as taste in concerned. In fact, I'd go so far as to call it an assult on the senses. I was able to finagle one of the bitter cola nuts out of class and waited for Grace, and proceeded to urge her to try it. The Africans, you see, believe that the Bitter Cola Nut has not only medicinal qualities but also will protect you from evil spirits and increase the happiness and longevity of your life. So now Grace and I have a special bond, as well as a horrible taste in our mouths!
The Cola nut was apparently used in Coca Cola long ago. But then again, Coca Cola also had cocaine in it originally. But basically the Cola nut is pure caffiene... It didn't taste nearly as bad, but our teacher says he hopes none of us plan to sleep for three days. Let us hope he was kidding.
And last but certainly not least, was the Alligator Pepper. This innoncent looking little fellow has something that about it which is not innoncent at all--spice. Words that come to mind are searing and infernal.
So that's the pepper and nut experience in a, well, nutshell. Sorry-I had little choice :)
